FAQs: the Submission Process

Q: How should the 2024 nomination packet be submitted?

A: Council profile administrators in the online portal should upload the nomination packet(s) as a single document through the private Council File Cabinet, selecting the “2024 Schwartz Prize Nomination form within the “Uploads/Downloads” tab. If you are nominating more than one program, please combine the two submissions into one PDF.

The nomination packet should include:

  • Answers to application questions
  • Clear indication if you are submitting in council-conducted or re-grant category
  • Electronic image(s) and/or links to media. All image(s) should be hyperlinked within your nomination packet via Google Drive or a similar sharing tool.
  • Link to program information online (either council, partner, or program-specific webpage)
  • OPTIONAL: pre-approved testimonials from participants (partners, program attendees, staff)
  • OPTIONAL: Up to 10 Media and/or Partner Organization contacts to send announcements to on your behalf, should you win

Q: Who should submit your Schwartz Prize nomination?

Only Executive Directors or assistant council profile admins who they appoint have access to the Schwartz Prize submission link. If you are a council profile admin, you will see a link to the organizational profile under “Membership Info” of your individual profile and under “Company Affiliations” below your account actions. The nomination packet itself and FAQs, however, are accessible to everyone.

Q: When is the deadline to submit a nomination?

A: Nominations to the 2024 Schwartz Prize are due Friday, August 2, 2024. To submit a nomination, please review the criteria for the nominating packets, including the nominating statement. Council profile administrators should submit through the Council File Cabinet, selecting the 2024 Schwartz Prize form. You have until midnight in your time zone to submit a nomination on time.

Q: Can I submit more than one nomination to the Schwartz Prize?

A: Yes! Councils have always been eligible for more than one nomination, and this year we have even more opportunities to do so. Up to three Schwartz Prizes will be awarded across two different categories: Council-conducted programs and Grant-funded programs. If more than one of your Council’s programs meets the eligibility requirements in either category, you may nominate it. Check the Call for Nominations (forthcoming) to see the eligibility requirements.

Q: Why is the 2024 Schwartz Prize is looking for 2023 programs?

A: The majority of the program needs to have taken place in 2023. For work to be eligible, it can have started before 2023 or gone beyond 2023, but most of the work or the final event must have taken place in 2023.

Q: Do I need to be at the Awards Ceremony to submit a nomination?

A: While we’d love to see you at the awards ceremony in November, you do not have to be in attendance. We do recommend appointing a representative to receive the award on your behalf. Please note that if it is funding that is preventing you from attending the National Humanities Conference and the Schwartz Prize, the National Humanities Conference offers support requests to help offset the cost of the conference for eligible attendees.

Q: I still have questions, who do I ask?

A: For any other questions, please contact Kara Hendren.
